The Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation (ADPF) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation that exists to support people living with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners and their families to achieve a wholesome life.
ADPF offers a seamless route to diagnosis, medication, rehabilitation and social support – free of charge – to people living with or impacted by Parkinson’s disease in Nigeria; and provides inspiration, tools and a positive environment to enable people with Parkinson’s Disease live better everyday.
Until there is a cure for Parkinson’s, ADPF shall continue to lead the way in providing care and resources that improve quality of life, first within Nigeria and then on the continent.

The main risk factor is age, because Parkinson’s disease is most commonly found in adults over the age of 50 (although diagnoses can occur in much younger people). Men also have a higher risk of Parkinson’s disease than women.
Parkinson’s disease is caused by a loss of nerve cells in the part of the brain called the substantia nigra, which is responsible for producing a chemical called dopamine. To learn more, click here.
